A.E.U. RESOLUTION
WHEREAS, every nation in the United Nations has ratified the U.N. Convention on the
Rights of the Child except Somalia and the United States; and
WHEREAS, said convention is the most inclusive human rights treaty ever written; and
WHEREAS, said convention serves as a universal ethical framework for addressing the
needs and rights of children everywhere; and
WHEREAS, children now represent nearly one-half the world's population but have no
political power; and
WHEREAS, children represent the future of our world; and
WHEREAS, the United States President has already signed said convention
THEREFORE, be it resolved that the American Ethical Union calls upon the President of
political power;the United States to submit the U.N. Convention on the Rights of the Child to the
political power;United States Senate with a strong recommendation that the Senate ratify said convention.
This resolution was passed by the AEU Board of Directors
at their Meeting on April 27, 1997 in Raleigh, North Carolina
